Paris Stock Exchange Declines Amid Budget Debates and US Rate Speculation

The Paris stock market experienced a downturn as investors closely watched the debate on France's draft budget for the upcoming year in the National Assembly. Concerns lingered about the government's ability to secure a majority for the budget and meet its deficit reduction targets, particularly surrounding discussions on taxation and new levies.

Concurrently, yields on French 10-year government bonds (OATs) remained elevated, hovering near 4.82 percent, adding to market pressure. Investors were also anticipating the release of the US Federal Reserve's (Fed) latest meeting minutes for insights into the direction of American monetary policy.

Recent slowdowns in employment and inflation indicators have prompted markets to reassess the likelihood of further interest rate hikes. However, the Fed's minutes might reveal a more restrictive stance than currently priced into market expectations.

Technical analysis suggests the CAC 40 futures contract has broken below the lower boundary of a short-term bearish channel. A sustained decline could lead to further consolidation towards the 7,548 point level. Key support is also noted at 7,000 points, while resistance is observed at 7,961 points.
