Patent Applications Decreased in Early 2026
A total of 1,037 national patent applications were filed with the Finnish Patent and Registration Office between January and August 2026, approximately 3% less than the previous year.

Application numbers showed variability during the initial months. From January to June, there was a slight increase in applications compared to the previous year. However, July and August saw a significant drop in filings, leading to the overall decrease for the January-August period.
While annual fluctuations in patent applications are typical, long-term statistics do not indicate a sustained decline in the overall number of applications.
In the corresponding period of 2025, the PRH processed 1,068 national patent applications.
