Patreon Allows Some AI Adult Content Under Strict Guidelines
Patreon has updated its policies to permit AI-generated adult content, but hyperrealistic material requires stringent consent and verification.

The online platform Patreon is now permitting the publication and monetization of AI-generated adult content, subject to specific conditions. These policy updates, effective as of August 2026, mandate that creators adhere to detailed guidelines regarding character realism and the depiction of real individuals.
The platform distinguishes between clearly artistic synthetic content, such as animated or illustrated characters, and hyperrealistic material. Content that is unmistakably stylized, like anime or comic book aesthetics, is generally permissible within the Adult/18+ category, provided all depicted characters appear to be over 18 years of age.
For synthetic media that aims for photorealism and resembles actual humans, the rules become significantly stricter. Monetizing such content necessitates explicit, documented consent from any real individuals depicted. Creators are required by Patreon to retain these consent records indefinitely, as payment processors may request them for compliance audits.
Furthermore, all creators operating an Adult/18+ page must undergo a mandatory identity verification process. Without successful verification, accepting pledges or hosting adult content is prohibited. All sexually explicit works must remain behind a subscription paywall.
