Patria and KNDS to produce German CAVS armoured vehicles
Patria and KNDS Deutschland Maintenance have signed an agreement for the assembly and integration of Patria 6x6 armoured vehicles in Germany as part of the CAVS program.
Finnish defense technology company Patria and German KNDS Deutschland Maintenance (KNDS) have entered into a framework agreement for the assembly and final integration of Patria 6x6 armoured vehicles in Germany. This collaboration is part of the multinational Common Armoured Vehicles (CAVS) program and follows procurement contracts signed between Patria and the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) in December 2025.
The agreement will see Patria establish German industrial capacity for the CAVS program, working alongside KNDS and other German industrial partners. Serial deliveries to the German Armed Forces are scheduled to commence in early 2027. Local production in Germany will be gradually increased from 2027 onwards as part of a technology transfer initiative, which is a core element of Patria's business model.
The CAVS program, based on the Patria 6x6 vehicle, was launched in 2020 through cooperation between Finland and Latvia. Current program participants include Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Germany, and the United Kingdom, along with several other European and NATO nations.
The program aims to provide participating nations with modern armored vehicles in a cost-effective and timely manner. The collaborative approach facilitates joint procurement, coordinated product development, and efficient life-cycle management. The CAVS program remains open to new European and NATO countries with similar 6x6 armored vehicle requirements. Vehicles have been delivered to several participating nations and are also operational in Ukraine.
