Patria Begins F100 Jet Engine Operations at Belgian Air Base

Defense and security company Patria has commenced operations for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of F100 jet engines at the Florennes Air Base in Belgium. This expansion deepens the collaboration between Patria's PBEC unit, which focuses on F-16 and F-15 fighter engines, and the Belgian Defence Forces.

The new operating model, initiated in September 2020, allows Patria personnel to work directly within the air base facilities. Previously, the detachment and reinstallation of engine modules from the aircraft required the involvement of Air Force mechanics. Now, Patria is responsible for these work phases directly at the base, improving the operational capability of F-16 fighters and increasing flexibility in personnel deployment.

"The new operating model shows that the Belgian Defence Forces have strong confidence in our operations. We have partnered with the Defence Forces for several decades. This is a natural step in developing our cooperation," said Manu Sidiropoulos, General Manager of PBEC.

Four Patria employees are currently engaged in this new operational model, with plans to hire additional mechanics in the coming years. The concept is also seen as addressing similar challenges faced by other air forces, such as the retirement of specialized personnel and the need to secure critical functions during the introduction of new aircraft types.
