Patria completes XA-180 armoured vehicle mid-life upgrade

Defense company Patria announced on November 23, 2022, that it has completed the mid-life upgrade project for its XA-180 armoured personnel vehicles, with the final vehicles now delivered to the Finnish Army. The company and the Finnish Defence Forces originally signed the agreement for the upgrade of the XA-180 series in 2013.

The project aimed to extend the service life of the vehicles significantly, ensuring their operational capability until the 2040s. Patria noted that the mobility performance of the XA-180 series will eventually be replaced by the new Patria 6x6 vehicles.

During the upgrade, all XA-series vehicles were modernized. Modifications included the installation of new electrical systems, communications equipment, and updated crew compartments with improved seating. Key components such as engines, power transmission, and axles were inspected and repaired, or replaced if necessary.

The project generated over 450 person-years of employment in Finland. Patria expressed appreciation for the flexible cooperation with the Finnish Defence Forces and other partners.
