Patria Conducts Successful Test Firings of New ARVE Mobile Field Gun
Defense firm Patria has successfully completed test firings of its new ARVE mobile field gun system. The artillery system, designed for Arctic conditions, is based on the Patria 155K98 field gun and integrated onto a Sisu all-terrain truck chassis.
Defense manufacturer Patria announced on June 26, 2025, that it has conducted successful test firings of its new ARVE mobile field gun system. The system, designated Patria 155 SPG, was first presented in March 2025 and is designed for operation in Arctic conditions.
The ARVE system utilizes the Patria 155K98 field artillery piece, a system in widespread use by the Finnish Defence Forces. This new variant is integrated onto the chassis of a Sisu all-terrain truck. Patria states the system is entirely domestically produced and modular, ensuring compatibility with existing Finnish artillery in terms of maintenance and spare parts. It also supports NATO ammunition and fire control standards.
During June 2025 test firings, dozens of shots were reportedly fired at various elevations and angles, including direct fire, with the system performing as expected even when using powerful overpressure charges.
Mikko Leino, Executive Vice President of Patria's Defence and Weapon Systems business area, expressed confidence that the ARVE system will meet customer performance requirements and gain international traction. Patria estimates that the production of this mobile artillery solution could create at least 70 person-years of employment in Finland, depending on production volumes.
