Patria Launches Passive Radar for Counter-Battery Operations
Defense firm Patria has introduced Patria WISPR, a new passive radar system designed to detect and locate projectiles without revealing its own emissions, at the Eurosatory exhibition in Paris.

Defense and technology company Patria unveiled its new Patria WISPR (Weapon Indication and Sensing Passive Radar) system at the Eurosatory exhibition in Paris on June 16, 2026. The system is a passive radar solution intended for counter-battery operations, designed to detect and locate enemy fire without emitting signals that could expose its position.
The development addresses the increasing need for continuous battlefield surveillance in environments where active radar emissions pose a significant risk of detection. Patria WISPR utilizes Passive Coherent Location technology to enable silent, round-the-clock monitoring.
Mikko Leino, Executive Vice President of Patria's Defence and Weapon Systems business area, emphasized the system's role in enhancing survivability. "Patria WISPR enables a new level of resilience and survivability in counter-battery operations. In today's environment, where the time from detection to strike is short, active radars risk exposure due to their emissions. Patria WISPR responds to this challenge by providing silent projectile detection," Leino stated.
The WISPR system can detect, locate, and track artillery, mortar, and rocket projectiles within its operational range. It can operate independently or as part of a network of multiple stations and supports remote control. The system uses digital television transmitters as its illumination source and can also be employed for air surveillance, including the detection of drones.
