Patrick Tan Appointed Senior Vice-Dean for Research at Duke-NUS
Professor Patrick Tan has been appointed Senior Vice-Dean for Research at Duke-NUS Medical School. He succeeds Professor Patrick Casey, who has led the school's research efforts since its inception.
Duke-NUS Medical School has appointed Professor Patrick Tan to the leadership role of Senior Vice-Dean for Research, effective May 1, 2023. He takes over from Professor Patrick Casey, who has guided the institution's research initiatives since its founding in 2005.
Tan, an internationally recognized cancer researcher, has been a faculty member at Duke-NUS since 2006. In his new capacity, he will also serve as Senior Scientific Advisor at SingHealth, aiming to enhance research and innovation collaborations within the academic medicine partnership between the two organizations.
With extensive experience in genomics research and leading large multidisciplinary teams, Tan has also been instrumental in implementing Singapore's national precision medicine strategy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he directed Operation Stronghold, which was crucial in establishing one of Singapore's largest COVID testing facilities.
Thomas Coffman, Dean of Duke-NUS, expressed confidence in Tan's ability to "translate his strategic vision into further scientific breakthroughs." Coffman also thanked Professor Casey for his "dedication, service, and contributions" over 18 years of pioneering the school's research infrastructure.
