Paulig Backs EU Mandatory Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence Framework

HELSINKI – Food company Paulig has declared its support for the European Union's planned legislative framework that will mandate companies to identify and manage human rights and environmental risks within their supply chains. The company has signed a statement championing an EU-wide due diligence regulation.

Paulig believes a harmonized EU-wide approach will promote responsibility and transparency consistently across companies in various sectors. The company adheres to the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international agreements, including ILO conventions and OECD guidelines for multinational enterprises. A key sustainability goal is to ensure all raw materials sourced from high-risk areas are externally verified as sustainable by 2030.

The company emphasizes that a mandatory due diligence process necessitates systematic actions and closer collaboration with suppliers, partners, and civil society throughout the value chain. Paulig views positively the efforts by the European Union and its member states to introduce new legislation and anticipates the European Commission's legislative proposal in 2021.
