PINC, the venture arm of food and beverage company Paulig, has co-led a EUR 2.6 million investment round in Cotierra, a Zurich-based climate technology company. The funding is intended to strengthen the resilience of coffee supply chains.

Cotierra develops decentralized biochar systems for agricultural value chains. Biochar, a carbon-rich material produced from agricultural residues, can improve soil health while sequestering carbon from the atmosphere.

The round was co-led with Carbon Removal Partners, bringing together expertise in both food and beverage supply chains and carbon removal. PINC stated the investment aligns with Paulig's strategy to increase transparency and sustainability in its raw material sourcing.

This investment reflects a broader trend in the food industry toward adopting sustainable solutions. The use of biochar is being explored as a significant tool for climate change mitigation within agricultural practices.
