Paulig's venture arm PINC invests in saffron production technology

Paulig's venture capital arm PINC has led a €2.7 million investment round in Swedish AgriTech company BlueRedGold. The funding aims to accelerate the development of a scalable indoor saffron cultivation system based on artificial intelligence and robotics.

BlueRedGold's technology seeks to address challenges in saffron production, such as vulnerability, inconsistency, and growing sustainability issues. The company's system replicates ideal indoor growing conditions, enabling multiple annual cultivation cycles and automating the picking of saffron flowers and stigma separation.

The funding will be used to construct a first-of-its-kind blueprint facility. This modular plant is designed to be profitable from the outset. The company reports that there is already demand for several tons from the nutraceutical, food, and cosmetics industries.

Paulig aims to shape the future of food and strengthen its position as a leader in sustainability. PINC supports this goal by investing in ambitious FoodTech solutions with global relevance.
