PC Shipments Fall 20.1 Percent, Sharpest Decline Since Q1 2023

Global PC shipments saw a substantial decline of 21.2 percent year-over-year in the third quarter of 2026, reaching 58.1 million units, according to data released by analysts at Omdia this week. This marks the most significant contraction the industry has faced since the first quarter of 2023.

The downturn affected both desktop and laptop segments. Shipments of desktop PCs, including desktop workstations, decreased by 23.5 percent to 11.7 million units. Laptop shipments, encompassing laptop workstations, fell by 20.6 percent to 46.4 million units.

This trend reflects a broader market shift following a period of heightened demand for personal computing devices during the early years of the COVID-19 pandemic. As remote work and study arrangements stabilized, the accelerated purchasing cycle for PCs has reportedly ended, leading to reduced consumer and business spending on new hardware.
