Peak XV Leads $45 Million Funding Round for AI Code Testing Firm Blacksmith

San Francisco-based AI code testing firm Blacksmith has raised $45 million in a Series B funding round, led by Peak XV Partners. The investment values the company at $550 million and underscores Peak XV's strategy to increase investments in US-based AI and developer tools companies.

This latest funding brings Blacksmith's total capital raised to $58.5 million. The company plans to allocate a significant portion of the new capital to expand its computing infrastructure. This expansion is driven by the rising demand for tools capable of testing and validating code generated by artificial intelligence.

Blacksmith co-founder and CEO Aditya Jayaprakash stated that advancements in AI coding models are enabling developers to produce software more rapidly, creating a corresponding need for validation and testing infrastructure. "Every model improvement has expanded what coding agents can do and led to even more code being produced," Jayaprakash said.

The startup competes with established players like GitHub Actions and CircleCI, claiming its purpose-built CI cloud infrastructure can operate workloads up to twice as fast and at 50%-75% lower costs. Blacksmith's platform is currently used by over 6,000 companies.
