Pearson and Westermann Partner to Deploy English Language Assessments in Germany
Pearson and Westermann have announced a collaboration to introduce English language proficiency assessments into German schools starting in January 2027.

Educational publisher Pearson and German learning media provider Westermann will collaborate to integrate English language assessment tools into the German school system. Beginning in January 2027, Westermann will distribute Pearson's PTE Academic and Versant English assessments to schools across the country.
The partnership aims to provide students with standardized proof of proficiency required for higher education and career development. According to labor surveys, English remains a primary foreign language requirement in the German job market, with nearly 68% of workers identifying the language as essential for their professional roles.
The initiative will offer educators access to both digital and print preparation materials alongside the formal testing platform. Pearson English Language Learning President Sharon Hague and Westermann Managing Director Nicole Bornemann stated that the agreement intends to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and the growing demand for verifiable language credentials in the globalized labor market.
