Pearson and Westermann partner to offer English proficiency testing in German schools
Starting in January 2027, German schools will have access to Pearson’s English language assessment tools through a new partnership with publisher Westermann.

Pearson and education provider Westermann have announced a collaboration to integrate English language assessment tools into the German school system. Beginning in January 2027, Westermann will distribute Pearson’s PTE Academic and Versant English proficiency assessments to educational institutions across Germany.
The partnership aims to provide students with standardized methods to demonstrate English language competency for university admissions and career advancement. Alongside the testing services, the collaboration will offer students access to supplementary learning materials, including AI-enabled study tools.
Demand for English proficiency is high in the German labor market, with surveys indicating that a majority of workers identify foreign language skills as a necessary component of their roles. By combining Westermann’s distribution network with Pearson’s testing infrastructure, the companies intend to standardize how students prepare for and verify their English language skills.
