Pearson integrates AI to enhance learning experiences
Educational company Pearson has incorporated artificial intelligence into its products and services, aiming to improve the learning process rather than just providing answers.

Educational company Pearson has focused on integrating artificial intelligence into its offerings over the past few years, with the goal of enhancing the learning experience through technology. CEO Omar Abbosh emphasizes that model capability alone is not sufficient for educational software success.
"Our products are grounded in learning science and academically strong by design. Our customers know we understand learning deeply and design our products using that expertise," Abbosh stated. Pearson, an almost 180-year-old London-based company, has made AI accessible to millions of students through platforms like MyLab and Mastering.
The company has embedded generative AI across its product portfolio since 2023 and was the first major higher education publisher to integrate AI-powered study tools into its academic content in 2024. Pearson has also established an AI Center for Enablement to coordinate governance and security, utilizing various technology providers such as Amazon Bedrock, Microsoft, Google Cloud, and IBM watsonx.
Pearson's approach differs from many other AI developers. Instead of solely focusing on AI model performance, the company emphasizes the combination of learning science, academic content, and data collected from students. This data helps identify areas where students struggle and adapt learning experiences accordingly.
The company views AI as one component of a larger learning system. Pearson aims to remain a key entity that helps institutions and employers verify skills and knowledge, building on its long-term strengths such as learning science expertise and extensive content.
