PepsiCo Reformulates Snacks With Added Protein and Fiber

Food giant PepsiCo is increasingly focusing on snacks with added nutritional benefits, such as protein and fiber, and simpler ingredients. The company announced in its third-quarter earnings report that it is reformulating its popular brands, including Doritos and SunChips, to align with changing consumer preferences. New products include protein-packed Doritos and fiber-rich SunChips.

PepsiCo aims to expand its offerings by increasing protein, fiber, and alternative oils, while simultaneously reducing artificial ingredients. This strategy reflects a shift in how one of the world's largest snack makers approaches its business. The move is driven by consumers' growing interest in healthier options without compromising on taste.

"Consumers are looking for more from their snacks than ever before – including options with protein and fiber, but taste still comes first," said Hernán Tantardini, chief marketing officer of PepsiCo Foods U.S. "Our focus is on evolving our portfolio to meet a wide range of preferences, occasions and lifestyles in a way that still delivers on the great taste and premium quality people expect from our brands."

PepsiCo's new product introductions include Doritos Protein (10 grams of protein per serving), Quaker Protein Rice Crisps, Popcorners Protein, Smartfood FiberPop, SunChips Fiber, and Simply NKD versions of Doritos and Cheetos made without artificial colors. The company views these products as growth platforms that address evolving consumer needs.
