Perforce Survey Finds Confidence vs. Reality Gap in Data Protection
A new report by Perforce reveals a significant disconnect between organizations' confidence in data protection and actual security risks. While 98% of companies feel secure, 34% have experienced data breaches.
Perforce Software has released its third annual "State of Data Compliance and Security Report," highlighting a substantial gap between how confident organizations are about protecting sensitive data and the reality of persistent security threats.
The global survey, which polled over 500 enterprise leaders, found that 98% of respondents express confidence in their ability to safeguard sensitive data. However, this high level of confidence starkly contrasts with the fact that 34% of organizations have already experienced data breaches or theft, and 43% have faced audit failures.
The report also points to a contradiction in policy enforcement: while 99% of organizations have data masking mandates in place, a significant 84% still allow compliance exceptions. This points to a vulnerability despite widespread adoption of masking policies.
Similar confidence-vs-reality gaps are evident in the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Although 98% feel confident about protecting sensitive data within AI workflows and 86% have AI data privacy mandates, 68% are concerned about data leaks and 62% about training data breaches.
Perforce Software plans further research into enterprise data management and protection in the age of AI, with additional reports on AI, data privacy, and synthetic data scheduled for release later this year.
