Pernod Ricard, the world's second-largest producer of wines and spirits, has deepened its commitment to the circular economy by becoming an official partner of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. The company, which first signed the "New Plastics Economy Global Commitment" in 2018, announced its enhanced partnership ahead of Earth Day.

The expanded partnership underscores Pernod Ricard's strategy to foster circular economy principles through broader collaboration. The foundation convenes businesses, policymakers, academics, and innovators globally to advance more sustainable business models.

Pernod Ricard has set ambitious targets within its 2030 "Good Times from a Good Place" sustainability roadmap. The company aims to minimize waste and maximize resource efficiency across its entire value chain, with a goal that 100% of its packaging and promotional materials will be recyclable, reusable, or compostable by 2025.

Significant progress has already been made. In 2021, Pernod Ricard eliminated single-use plastic from its promotional items four years ahead of schedule. Additionally, its flagship brands Beefeater and Ballantine's have replaced plastic in their bottle caps and/or labels. The company is also piloting new circular distribution models to reduce waste and carbon emissions, including a closed-loop system for Absolut, Beefeater, and Havana Club in bars across Hong Kong and Singapore with ecoSPIRITS.

"We are committed to minimizing waste and reducing our carbon footprint across our value chain towards net zero by 2050," said Vanessa Wright, Chief Sustainability Officer at Pernod Ricard. "We believe collaboration with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation will accelerate the transition to a circular economy."
