Australia has implemented new regulations effective July 1 that significantly expand "Know Your Customer" (KYC) requirements. The "Tranche 2" law now obligates law firms, accountants, and real estate agents to verify their clients, screen them against sanctions lists, and report suspicious activities to the government.

Personr, a company providing solutions for these compliance needs, anticipates substantial market growth. "Lawyers, accountants, and real estate professionals must now adhere to the same stringent rules that banks have followed for decades," stated Personr CEO Nicholas Ahrens in an interview with CB Insights.

Prior to this July update, Australia's financial crime regulator, AUSTRAC, oversaw approximately 17,000 businesses. The new legislation dramatically increases this scope, adding an estimated 90,000 additional firms under its purview, creating a substantial demand for compliance solutions.

Ahrens highlighted that these regulations are not merely a bureaucratic hurdle but also an opportunity to enhance financial security and combat illicit activities. Personr aims to assist these newly regulated professionals in navigating and adapting to the evolving compliance landscape.
