Pfizer and Ab Initio Collaborate on GPCR Antibody Discovery

Pfizer Inc. and Ab Initio Biotherapeutics have entered into a strategic collaboration aimed at discovering new therapeutic antibodies targeting G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs). GPCRs represent the largest class of therapeutic drug targets, playing crucial roles in numerous physiological processes across the body.

Under the agreement, Ab Initio will leverage its proprietary GPCR antibody discovery platform to engineer antibodies designed to activate specific GPCR targets. Pfizer will hold exclusive worldwide rights to develop and commercialize any resulting GPCR activator antibodies. Ab Initio will receive an upfront payment and research funding, with eligibility for milestone payments and tiered royalties on future sales of any developed products.

As part of the transaction, Pfizer will also make a strategic investment in Ab Initio. This partnership bolsters Pfizer's commitment to advancing biotherapeutics research. GPCRs are considered potent targets for new drug development due to their widespread therapeutic relevance.

Ab Initio also announced the appointment of Will Somers, Ph.D., Vice President of Biomedicines Design at Pfizer, to its Scientific Advisory Board. He joins other notable members, including Nobel laureate in Chemistry Brian Kobilka, M.D.
