Pfizer and Alcyone Lifesciences to Study Gene Therapy Delivery System
Pfizer and Alcyone Lifesciences have entered into a feasibility study agreement to evaluate Alcyone's delivery technology for gene therapies targeting central nervous system disorders.

Pfizer Inc. has entered into a feasibility study agreement with Alcyone Lifesciences to evaluate Alcyone's proprietary PulsarTM Advanced Intrathecal Precision Delivery Platform Technology. The technology is intended for use in gene therapies targeting central nervous system (CNS) disorders.
The study will combine Alcyone's delivery platform with Pfizer's recombinant adeno-associated viral (rAAV) vector gene therapy technology. The goal is to develop a method for delivering gene therapies more effectively to patients with rare or orphan neurological conditions.
Gene therapy offers a potentially transformative approach for certain genetic neurological disorders, aiming for one-time treatments addressing the root cause of the disease. However, the success of these therapies relies on efficient and reliable delivery systems to transport viral vectors to target sites within the CNS. Alcyone's PulsarTM platform is designed to enhance vector concentration and biodistribution to these specific areas.
Pfizer stated that this collaboration is part of its ongoing efforts to build capabilities in vector design, delivery, and manufacturing for gene therapies. The companies aim to advance treatments for patients with limited or no options for neurodegenerative diseases.
