Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc. has entered into a research agreement with MindImmune Therapeutics to study the previously unrecognized role of peripheral immune cells in the pathology of central nervous system (CNS) disorders. The collaboration also includes an investment by Pfizer in MindImmune through its Emerging Technologies Fund.

The research aims to understand how certain immune cells contribute to brain diseases, a link supported by recent advances in human genetics. This initiative seeks to identify novel therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative conditions that have been challenging to treat with existing methods.

MindImmune Therapeutics, a drug discovery company focused on developing new treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, views the partnership as significant. Stevin Zorn, CEO of MindImmune, stated that Pfizer's support will help them leverage their unique immune cell platform, which holds potential for developing therapies to prevent brain damage.

MindImmune Therapeutics, founded in 2016, is a privately held company comprised of experienced CNS drug discovery scientists. Their objective is to develop first-in-class therapeutics targeting the immune system for disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Huntington's disease, depression, and neuropathic pain.
