Pfizer Finalizes Metsera Acquisition to Bolster Obesity Pipeline
Pfizer Inc. has completed its acquisition of Metsera, Inc., a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company, for approximately $7 billion. The deal adds a portfolio of obesity and cardiometabolic disease candidates to Pfizer's internal medicine pipeline.

NEW YORK – Pfizer Inc. announced the completion of its acquisition of Metsera, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing treatments for obesity and cardiometabolic diseases. The transaction, valued at approximately $7 billion in cash, significantly expands Pfizer's presence in the highly competitive therapeutic area.
The acquisition brings Metsera's promising pipeline into Pfizer's portfolio, including MET-097i, a GLP-1 receptor agonist slated for Phase 3 development, and MET-233i, an amylin analog candidate in Phase 1 studies. Pfizer also gains an oral GLP-1 receptor agonist candidate and other preclinical assets.
Pfizer expects the acquisition to be dilutive to its earnings through 2030, attributed to increased investment in the late-stage pipeline candidates. Updated financial outlook details are anticipated to be shared with the company's 2026 guidance later this year.
As part of the deal, Metsera's shares will no longer trade on the NASDAQ. Pfizer aims to leverage this acquisition to become a leader in the dynamic obesity treatment market, potentially reshaping its landscape.
