Pfizer has inked an exclusive worldwide collaboration and license agreement with YaoPharma, a subsidiary of Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical, to advance YP05002, a small molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist currently in Phase 1 clinical development for chronic weight management.

The deal grants Pfizer the rights to further develop, manufacture, and commercialize YP05002 globally. In return, YaoPharma will receive an upfront payment of $150 million and is eligible for milestone payments up to $1.935 billion, along with tiered royalties on sales if the drug is approved.

Pfizer stated that this collaboration strengthens its pipeline of novel candidates for obesity and related diseases. The company plans to evaluate YP05002 in combination studies with its GIPR antagonist PF-07976016, which is already in Phase 2 development, and other molecules in its portfolio.

The agreement signifies Pfizer's focus on cardiometabolic research, an area the company considers a strategic priority with significant growth potential. YaoPharma will complete the ongoing Phase 1 clinical trial for YP05002 as part of the agreement.
