PG&E Urges Customers to Prepare for Planned Power Shutoffs Due to Fire Weather

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is preparing for a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) event due to a statewide fire weather system expected to begin Wednesday evening, October 14.

Approximately 88,000 customers across 29 counties have been notified of the potential shutoff. PG&E is advising customers to prepare for extended outages by charging devices, ensuring they have necessary medical equipment, and stocking up on supplies. Special attention is being given to customers who rely on electricity for medical needs.

More than 40 Community Resource Centers will be opened in 25 counties, offering services such as device charging, Wi-Fi, and basic supplies. Customers can check their address and get updates at pge.com/PSPSupdates. Support is also available by calling 211.

The company will also be conducting in-person visits to approximately 5,500 customers enrolled in the Medical Baseline program to ensure their preparedness. The PSPS events are intended to reduce the risk of wildfires that could be ignited by strong winds and dry conditions.
