Philippines fines Grab-owned Move It $8.7 million over driver cap violations
Philippine transport regulators have ordered ride-hailing firm Move It to pay an $8.7 million fine for significantly exceeding its authorized driver allocation.

The Philippines' Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has imposed a 555.7 million peso (US$8.7 million) fine on Move It, a motorcycle taxi service acquired by Grab Philippines in 2022. The regulator cited widespread violations of established driver caps within the government's pilot program for the sector.
Investigations revealed that Move It employed 73,321 active riders as of May, far exceeding the authorized limit of 17,746. The LTFRB calculated the penalty by applying a 10,000 peso (US$157) fine for each of the 55,575 excess riders identified.
Beyond the numerical breach, the regulator stated that Move It failed to adhere to a mandatory one-year moratorium on the onboarding of new drivers. The board rejected the company's defense regarding its internal rider classification systems and cautioned that failure to settle the fine could result in a suspension from the pilot program or the revocation of the company's accreditation.
