Philippines Tourism Department Lists Sustainable Travel Destinations

The Philippines Department of Tourism has highlighted six destinations within the country that offer sustainable travel experiences. These locations are promoted for their commitment to conservation and responsible tourism.

The identified sites aim to foster sustainable travel that contributes to inclusive growth while preserving natural and cultural heritage, as well as safeguarding the nation's resources. The department emphasizes that this approach ensures natural attractions remain intact for future visitors.

Among the chosen locations is Masungi Georeserve in Rizal, recognized as a conservation area and a sanctuary for native wildlife. Visitors can trek its trails and participate in tree planting as part of reforestation efforts. Bohol offers dolphin and whale watching at Pamilacan Island, where sustainable tourism initiatives have helped protect marine life from commercial fishing practices.

Further destinations include Campawan Curtain Falls in Davao Oriental and the lagoons of El Nido, Palawan, which provide opportunities for nature-based activities. El Nido has implemented carrying capacity limits and restrictions on boat traffic in its lagoons to maintain ecological balance. La Union province promotes its nature and eco-trails, offering refreshing experiences near waterfalls and through forested areas.
