Philippines Tourism Exceeds 2023 Targets
The Department of Tourism Philippines announced it has surpassed its 2023 targets for international visitor arrivals. The number exceeded five million before the year's end.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) in the Philippines has announced that it exceeded its 2023 tourism targets. Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco stated that international visitor arrivals surpassed the five million mark before the end of the year, generating significant revenue.
"Our tourism has shown remarkable resilience in the face of unprecedented challenges," Frasco said. She highlighted the administration's efforts in transforming the tourism sector, particularly its post-pandemic reopening. The department indicated these achievements align with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s vision for a revitalized Philippine tourism industry.
As of December 12, the Philippines welcomed 5,069,752 international visitors. Foreign tourists accounted for 91.88 percent of this total, with the remainder being Overseas Filipinos. South Korea, the United States, Japan, China, and Australia were the top source markets. The country's international tourist arrival recovery rate reached 65.54 percent, outperforming the Asia-Pacific average of 62 percent.
The DOT has also prioritized enhancing tourism infrastructure. This includes the development of "Tourist Rest Areas" (TRA) in strategic locations nationwide. Additionally, collaborations with other government agencies have improved connectivity to tourist destinations through new road construction. These initiatives are aimed at implementing the National Tourism Development Plan for 2023-2028, which focuses on connectivity, convenience, and equality.
