PhonePe to Monetize Transaction Data with New PulsePro Platform
Walmart-backed fintech PhonePe has launched PulsePro, an enterprise intelligence platform using aggregated and anonymized transaction data. The move aims to unlock a new revenue stream ahead of the company's anticipated IPO.

Fintech giant PhonePe, backed by Walmart, has launched PulsePro, an enterprise intelligence platform leveraging aggregated and anonymized data from its payments network. The platform aims to provide businesses with detailed market insights derived from millions of transactions.
PulsePro is built on data accumulated from over 700 million users and 50 million merchants across India. According to the company, commercializing this data responds to a growing demand from businesses and organizations for deeper, customized market intelligence to inform growth strategies. Inbound requests for such insights have reportedly increased, especially since 2021.
Karthik Raghupathy, PhonePe's strategy head, stated that PulsePro is a natural extension of its existing services, catering to both consumers and businesses, and is expected to become a significant revenue vertical. This launch comes as PhonePe seeks sustainable revenue streams prior to its planned initial public offering (IPO). The company recently reported widening net losses despite an increase in operating revenue.
The new platform is an expansion of PhonePe's previously launched free data platform, PhonePe Pulse. PulsePro offers businesses tools to analyze consumer spending patterns across categories, regions, and time periods. It also aids in operational decisions like selecting new store locations or optimizing distribution networks, with three core modules: Category & Growth Intelligence, Retail Network Intelligence, and Hyperlocal Intelligence.
The platform primarily targets large enterprises in the FMCG, retail, and direct-to-consumer (D2C) sectors. Pricing will be tailored to each client. PhonePe asserts that PulsePro uses only aggregated and anonymized data, ensuring individual privacy and compliance with data protection regulations.
