However, with the rise of antimicrobial resistance, interest in PDT has resurfaced due to its effectiveness against bacterial biofilms, a key factor in dental plaque, and its inherent lack of resistance development.

The Lumoral method, developed by Koite Health, leverages modern LED technology to make PDT accessible as part of a daily oral care routine. The company states that the method is safe and effective for preventing and treating oral diseases, citing clinical studies that recommend regular use.

Research into PDT has significantly increased over the past 15 years, particularly in dentistry, focusing on treatments for conditions like periodontal disease.
