PhysicsWallah to launch personal AI tutoring service next quarter

Indian EdTech company PhysicsWallah is developing an AI-powered tutoring service focused on delivering personalized, one-on-one instruction. During the company's Q1 FY27 earnings call, it was revealed that the AI Tutor service is currently in a beta phase and is slated for a launch next quarter.

Unlike conventional AI assistants that primarily react to prompts, AI Tutor is designed to proactively engage students. It nudges learners to understand concepts and asks questions to facilitate deeper comprehension. PhysicsWallah reports that initial testing showed a "hallucination rate" (inaccuracy) of less than 1%, attributing this low rate to the company's proprietary teaching data.

Early results from the AI Tutor's proof of concept have been encouraging, with 95% lesson-level accuracy and response latencies between 1.8 and 2.2 seconds. The service has been tested with over 300 students and more than 1,000 queries, showing strong learner engagement. The architecture is built to scale across Indian languages and multimodal content.

This new offering expands PhysicsWallah's existing ecosystem of AI-driven educational tools, which includes services like AI Guru and Ask AI. The company indicated that voice-to-voice AI tutoring could be delivered at a cost of approximately $0.20 per hour.

For the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27 (Q1 FY27), PhysicsWallah reported a net loss of Rs 88 crore on operating revenue of Rs 1,054 crore. The company's offline revenue growth was impacted by delays in the NEET-UG examination cycle, which also affected online enrollments.
