Pinneberg Central Hospital Project Raises Resident Concerns
Construction of a new central hospital in Pinneberg, Germany, is slated to begin in 2029. Local residents have voiced concerns about the project, citing potential increases in noise and traffic.

The construction of a new central hospital in Pinneberg, Germany, is scheduled to commence in 2029. The city council is currently finalizing the development plan for the new hospital complex, which will consolidate the existing Regio Kliniken hospitals in Elmshorn and Pinneberg. The project is estimated to cost over 500 million euros and is planned for completion in 2033.
Local residents have expressed concerns regarding the hospital's development. Key worries include potential increases in noise levels, traffic congestion, and a subsequent decrease in the property values of surrounding residential areas. Concerns have also been raised about the potential shadowing effect of the hospital buildings on neighboring properties.
Pinneberg's mayor, Thomas Voerste (independent), stated that he understands the residents' concerns and assured that they have been considered during the planning phase. According to Voerste, the site will feature a health campus with ample green space, rather than a dense building complex. He emphasized that the distances between buildings have been planned to minimize shadowing on neighbors.
The mayor also sought to address concerns about declining property values. He noted that the locations of current hospitals in Schleswig-Holstein are typically areas with higher property values. Voerste suggested that proximity to a hospital does not necessarily lead to a decrease in value and may even enhance its appeal.
