Piramal Pharma Solutions and NP2 to Complete Cyclophosphamide Development Phase Next Month

Piramal Pharma Solutions (PPS), a global Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO), and nonprofit drug manufacturer NP2 announced they will complete the development phase for the generic cancer drug cyclophosphamide in October. Development and manufacturing activities are being conducted at Piramal's dedicated sterile injectable facility in Lexington, Kentucky.

Cyclophosphamide is a widely prescribed generic, sterile injectable oncology medicine used to treat several cancers, including breast cancer and retinoblastoma, an eye cancer in young children. Completing the drug's development is crucial given ongoing shortages and supply chain risks impacting patient access in the U.S.

A recent survey highlighted widespread shortages of cancer medications, with 100% of respondent cancer centers experiencing a lack of at least one anti-cancer agent. Cyclophosphamide is among these drugs, with reported limited availability in the EU and Canada.

Piramal's Lexington facility is undergoing an $85 million expansion to increase manufacturing capacity for sterile injectables like cyclophosphamide. This partnership aims to strengthen the U.S. domestic supply chain and ensure reliable access to this critical cancer therapy.
