Pizza Hut closed hundreds of U.S. restaurants in 2025

Pizza Hut closed 261 U.S. restaurants in 2025, according to the company's latest franchise disclosure document released in March 2026. These closures have extended into the current year. The acquisition of the pizza chain by private equity firm LongRange Capital from Yum Brands was finalized recently.

At the end of fiscal year 2025, Pizza Hut operated 5,031 franchise and company-owned locations across the United States, marking a net loss of 206 restaurants from the start of the year. Of these, 75 were company-owned and 4,956 were franchised. The majority of the closures, 259 locations, were franchised and spread across 40 states, with California and Florida experiencing the most closures at 28 and 25 respectively.

This represents a continuation of a downward trend in store count. In 2023, Pizza Hut saw a net loss of 16 locations, followed by 70 in 2024, and 206 in 2025. Concurrently, the number of new store openings has decreased significantly, from 155 in 2023 to 89 in 2024 and just 55 in 2025.

In 2025, Pizza Hut also reacquired 54 franchised locations across three states to expand its company-owned portfolio. Earlier statements indicated plans to close approximately 250 underperforming locations in the first half of 2026. Media reports have also identified over 50 additional closures in early 2026.
