Plan International: Sudan Child Risks Rise Amidst Violence

Plan International has voiced grave concerns regarding the safety and well-being of children in Sudan following a recent escalation in violence. An attack on El-Fasher in Darfur on September 19, which resulted in over 70 fatalities, has prompted the international organization to highlight an escalating humanitarian crisis.

The organization reports that September has been a particularly distressing month for Sudan. Incidents include deadly landslides in Jebel Marra and drone attacks causing significant civilian casualties across the country. These events are exacerbating an already catastrophic humanitarian situation.

The armed conflict in Sudan, now in its third year, has created one of the world's most severe humanitarian and displacement crises. Millions of children and their families are suffering the consequences. Diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire and humanitarian pauses have stalled, leaving civilians in a precarious position.

Plan International is calling on all parties to respect and adhere to international humanitarian law. The organization demands that life-saving humanitarian assistance to millions of vulnerable people in Sudan be guaranteed. They also note that humanitarian actors' resources are stretched thin while they contend with cholera outbreaks and natural disasters.
