Playboy Survey: Sex Not a Priority for Significant Portion of Gen Z

Playboy magazine has released findings from its 2026 Gen Z Sex Survey, indicating a shift in sexual activity among young adults. The survey, which polled over 2,300 individuals aged 18 to 29, found that 19% have never had sex, a notable contrast to previous generations.

The study, conducted in partnership with the Kinsey Institute and women's sexual health brand Julie, also highlighted reduced self-stimulation. One in three Gen Z men and nearly half of Gen Z women reported no masturbation in the last three months, despite 74% stating moderate to high sexual desire. Playboy summarized the findings by stating, "Gen Z isn’t just having less sex with each other; a lot of them are having less sex with themselves too."

Economic factors appear to play a significant role, with 39% of respondents indicating that the cost of dating limited their opportunities for sex or romance. An additional 43% blamed financial anxiety for making dating more difficult. The survey also noted that 34% of young men surveyed report that pornography completely satisfies their sexual desires, and only 30% masturbate daily.

Overall, 42% of Gen Z reported that "sex is not a priority for them right now." For those who do prioritize sex, one in three sometimes choose digital or solo sex over partnered sex. The data suggests that 28% of this generation, having grown up with screens, find their motivation for in-person sexual connections reduced by device time.
