PocketMage resurrects PDA with e-paper screen

Talisman Design is seeking crowdfunding for the PocketMage, a device aiming to revive the personal digital assistant (PDA) category. The clamshell-shaped device combines a physical keyboard with both e-paper and OLED displays, targeting users who may miss the dedicated functionality of older PDAs.

The PocketMage's design features a hybrid display system, incorporating an e-paper screen for potentially better readability and lower power consumption, alongside an OLED screen for more dynamic content. Its pocketable, foldable form factor is reminiscent of classic PDAs but updated with modern display technology.

The device is available for pre-order on Crowd Supply, with two options: a fully assembled unit for $235 and a self-assembly version for $185. Customers can also select from two accent color options for the device.

The PocketMage's appearance suggests a niche market interest in devices that offer alternatives to the all-in-one smartphone, catering to those who prefer physical keyboards and specialized functionalities.
