Swedish electric vehicle maker Polestar has decided to exit the U.S. market, according to a report from technology publication The Verge. The company cited limitations imposed by the U.S. government and insufficient profitability of its local operations as reasons for the decision.

Polestar has stated that it will continue to fulfill its warranty obligations and provide service for existing vehicles. The company will also continue to sell its remaining inventory of Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 models. However, the announcement has caused anger and concern among both car owners and dealers.

One owner in Washington state, who recently purchased a used Polestar 2, expressed shock. "It feels like we're the last ones holding the bag. The car suddenly isn't worth anything, and there's no compensation," the owner stated, fearing a significant drop in the vehicle's resale value.

Matthew Haiken, a dealer principal in New Jersey, said he believes Polestar will honor its service commitments but acknowledged the uncertainty. "At this point, we just have to trust that Polestar will deliver on its warranty and service promises. We should have had a better outcome. This is the first time someone told us it wasn't our fault, it was a government decision. So, we're in a very precarious position now," Haiken commented.

The withdrawal highlights the challenges faced by EV manufacturers in navigating regulatory environments and market economics in key global regions.
