Polymarket social media account withheld in India

Indian authorities have restricted access to Polymarket’s X account, five months after the platform’s primary website was blocked.

23 October 2026

Users in India are currently unable to access the official X account of prediction market platform Polymarket. The account now displays a notice stating it has been withheld in response to a legal demand, mirroring the restrictions placed on the company's website earlier this year.

The enforcement is linked to the Online Gaming Act, 2025, which prohibits money-based games and betting activities in India. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) classifies prediction markets under these prohibited categories. While the specific legal order for the social media restriction remains undisclosed, the action aligns with the government's use of Section 69A of the IT Act to compel intermediaries to block access to non-compliant digital services.

This move is part of a broader regulatory crackdown on real-money gaming and prediction platforms. Indian authorities have instructed telecom providers, payment processors, and app stores to disable such services. Despite the lack of an official geographic block from Polymarket itself, the regulatory environment in India—including strict tax policies on crypto assets and legal threats to intermediaries—has effectively pushed the platform out of the country.
