Popeyes scales back wing menu to address seven-quarter sales slump

Fast-food chain Popeyes is scaling back its wing offerings as part of a strategic effort to reverse a prolonged slump in financial performance. Despite the wings becoming a major menu addition in recent years, the company reports that the product adds unnecessary complexity to kitchen operations.

Parent company Restaurant Brands International is now pivoting focus toward the chain's core bone-in chicken, tenders, and sandwiches. CEO Josh Kobza stated that while the reduction in wings may create short-term sales pressure, the move is intended to ensure the long-term health and efficiency of the brand.

Performance data shows same-store sales declined 2.2% during the third quarter, marking the seventh consecutive quarter of negative growth. In tandem with the menu restructuring, the company is adjusting its corporate leadership, including the recent departure of Chief Marketing Officer Matt Rubin.
