PORR and Apleona to construct new vocational school in Vienna
PORR and Apleona have commenced construction of a new vocational school in Vienna's Seestadt Aspern district. The project, Austria's largest public-private partnership (PPP) high-rise development, is valued at approximately EUR 200 million.

A consortium of PORR and Apleona has begun constructing a new central vocational school in Vienna's Seestadt Aspern district. Commissioned by the City of Vienna, the facility will accommodate 7,500 students and 350 staff members. The project's value is approximately EUR 200 million.
This development is noted as Austria's largest public-private partnership (PPP) high-rise construction project, distinguished by its unique scale and complexity. The educational facility will comprise a 26-meter-high main building with five floors, connected to a two-story workshop building by an elevated glass bridge and an underground service corridor. The total usable area spans 29,000 square meters.
The construction phase is scheduled for approximately 32 months, with the school expected to open for classes in September 2028. The building utilizes a timber-hybrid construction method, with Building Information Modeling (BIM) employed throughout the design and execution phases. The project is projected to create employment for up to 400 individuals during construction.
Sustainability is a key focus, with the building designed for energy efficiency and climate-friendly operation. It will feature geothermal energy systems and photovoltaic panels. Construction will involve the use of CO2-reduced cement, and the building process will be optimized using LEAN Construction principles to minimize waste. The project aims for TQB certification according to ÖGNB criteria.
Following completion, Apleona Austria will manage the facility's operations for 25 years, utilizing digital twin technology and AI-based systems for efficient building management.
