PORR Infra to equip Germany's second-longest road tunnel

Austrian construction firm PORR AG's subsidiary, PORR Infra GmbH, will equip the Hirschhagen tunnel in Germany. The contract is part of the new construction of the A44 motorway near Kassel.

The tunnel will be Germany's second-longest road tunnel, measuring approximately 4.2 kilometers across two tubes. The contract value is around EUR 31.5 million. PORR Infra will be responsible for all electrical equipment, including systems for power supply, fire and ventilation, as well as traffic management.

The tunnel is slated for completion in spring 2022. An average daily traffic volume of approximately 37,800 vehicles is anticipated. The project is scheduled to begin in February 2019.

Upon completion, the Hirschhagen Tunnel will become the longest motorway tunnel in the state of Hesse and the second-longest in Germany, following the Rennsteig Tunnel.
