PORR revitalizes Berlin's Siemensbahn as part of i2030 project

Construction company PORR AG has commenced work on the revitalization of the historic Siemensbahn railway line in Berlin. The line, which has been disused for over 40 years, is part of the "i2030 – More Tracks for Berlin and Brandenburg" initiative, aiming to re-establish a modern and efficient transport link between Jungfernheide and Gartenfeld.

PORR is responsible for contract package 2, "KIB Neubau," which involves the construction of all civil engineering structures for the railway. This includes building railway bridges, stations, pedestrian tunnels, and retaining structures. PORR is collaborating on this package as part of a consortium with KEMNA BAU and MCE.

The Siemensbahn was originally opened in 1929 to improve transport for Siemens employees and local residents. Its reactivation is a key component of Berlin's transport strategy, aiming to connect the Siemensstadt Square area directly to major hubs like Berlin Central Station and Berlin Brandenburg Airport.

The project utilizes a partnership model focused on integrated collaboration to accelerate and optimize infrastructure development. Construction is taking place in an urban environment, sometimes alongside operational railway lines, necessitating precise logistics planning and execution within limited time windows.
