PORR to build key section of Poland's S16 expressway
Poland's General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) has awarded PORR a contract to upgrade an 18 km section of the S16. The existing DK16 road between Barczewo and Biskupiec will be converted into an expressway.

PORR AG has secured a contract from Poland's General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) to upgrade an 18-kilometer section of the S16 expressway. The stretch between Barczewo and Biskupiec will be converted into a dual-carriageway road.
The contract is valued at approximately EUR 86 million (PLN 372 million). The scope of work includes recycling existing asphalt for the new surface and installing lighting for intersections powered by renewable energy sources. Construction is scheduled to begin following contract signing, with a duration of 39 months.
The S16 expressway is planned as a crucial regional artery within Poland's road network and a component of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). It aims to connect various regions and serve as the shortest route between Berlin and the Baltic states, intended to boost regional business and tourism.
PORR's responsibilities under the contract also include rebuilding junctions in Kromerowo and Biskupiec, as well as constructing a service area. This marks PORR's second construction lot for the S16 expressway, with a previous section nearing completion.
The project is anticipated to be completed by mid-2028. The utilization of recycled asphalt and renewable energy for intersection lighting are key environmental aspects of the construction.
