Vienna/Bucharest – PORR AG has been awarded a major contract for the renovation and modernization of the Craiova - Drobeta Turnu Severin - Caransebeș railway line in Romania. The "design & build" project, commissioned by the Romanian National Railway Company, is worth approximately EUR 428 million (RON 2.14 billion).

The scope of work includes modernizing 32.6 kilometers of track. This involves upgrading the existing single-track line to double-track and constructing two new double-track variants. The project also entails building 18 bridges and 54 culverts.

Additionally, the existing Rachitoberg tunnel will be renovated, and a new, 1,279-meter-long double-track tunnel named Poarta I will be constructed. Six railway stations, including Băile Herculane and Mehadia, are slated for renovation and modernization.

The entire section will be equipped with a modern power supply and signaling system, including ERTMS Level 2. The project is scheduled for completion within 60 months and aims to improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and increase the transport capacity of the Romanian railway network.
