Porsche Macan Prototype Spotted Testing in Audi Q5 Body

A new internal combustion engine version of the Porsche Macan has been spotted undergoing testing disguised in an Audi Q5 body shell. The vehicle is slated for a 2028 launch and will share a platform with Audi.

A prototype for a new internal combustion engine variant of the Porsche Macan has been seen testing, utilizing an Audi Q5 body shell for disguise. Despite the familiar Audi exterior, widened wheel arches and a higher stance suggest the vehicle beneath is Porsche's upcoming gasoline-powered Macan.

The car is reportedly based on the same PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) architecture as the Audi Q5, explaining the camouflage strategy. Porsche is developing this combustion engine model to be sold alongside the existing fully electric Macan, rather than replacing it. The market launch is anticipated for 2028.

Spy shots reveal a revised front grille design, distinct from the Q5's, with large air intakes. At the rear, quad exhaust tips, reminiscent of older Macan models, hint at the presence of a V6 engine. Porsche is conducting real-world durability testing, with foam blocks visible to calibrate ride height, suggesting a lower and wider stance than the Q5 for improved dynamics.

Powertrain options are expected to include turbocharged four-cylinder and V6 engines, along with a plug-in hybrid variant. While unconfirmed, some reports suggest a V8 engine might also be part of the offering. This new combustion engine SUV aims to fill a product gap in Porsche's lineup.
