Porsche has revealed the Mission S concept in New York, offering a glimpse of a new mid-engined sports car that will sit above the 911 in the company's model range. Unlike limited-run vehicles such as the Carrera GT or 918 Spyder, the Mission S is intended as a regular production model.

The new model is part of Porsche's broader strategy to improve its financial standing by 2035. The German automaker has faced recent financial difficulties, with its profit margin dropping significantly from 18 percent to 1 percent, though recovery is underway. The 'Sportwagenschmiede '35' plan aims to achieve double-digit margins by prioritizing value over volume, focusing on enhanced customer individualization and higher selling prices.

"We are pursuing a clear plan with our strategy Sportwagenschmiede '35. The ultimate goal is to further strengthen our unique sports car brand–across all model lines and with new, highly desirable models in particularly high-margin segments," said Porsche Chairman Michael Leiters.

The concept's quad exhaust pipes suggest a potential new powertrain, possibly an eight-cylinder engine, though further details on the drivetrain have not yet been released.
