Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT) in New Jersey has placed a significant order with Konecranes Oyj. The terminal has ordered 20 hybrid Konecranes Noell straddle carriers, equipped with eco-efficient hybrid drives. Deliveries are scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.

PNCT, one of the largest container terminals on the U.S. East Coast, is a long-standing customer of Konecranes. The terminal's entire straddle carrier fleet consists of Konecranes Noell machines, and earlier this year, an order was placed for an additional 15 hybrid models.

The new carriers combine a diesel genset with a rechargeable battery, enabling the proven performance of Konecranes Noell straddle carriers with reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions. The equipment will be used for ship-to-shore container operations, stacking, and the loading and unloading of trucks and rail wagons.

"PNCT has been operating Konecranes Noell straddle carriers for decades and we are convinced by their performance and reliability," said Charlie Ferlisi, Director of Engineering & Equipment Services at PNCT. "We have already seen the benefits of the hybrid drive technology, and this new investment is aimed at further reducing fuel consumption and operating with even higher efficiency."
